Native American Earrings

The earrings in Native American culture are very special since they are believed to provide strength to the wearer. Earrings come in many forms but they are worn as it is – they are never modified in their original content. For example, earrings made of animal parts are worn so their strength could be transferred to users. It is also believed that earrings are worn to ward off evil spirits. Centuries later, different materials were incorporated such as silver and other known metals. Precious gems are also added to the earrings so they could become fashionable.

Native American earrings come in three major forms: hoop, wire and post earrings. Hoop earrings are very simple without additional components. Basically hoop earrings are materials that were transformed into circle shaped earrings. They are usually small but they could still command a good price because it is usually made of precious materials. Wire earrings are probably the most fashionable type of Native American earrings as wire earrings are often studded with different gems and could come in different designs. Post or studded earrings is also common in Native American jewelry. They usually design the gems to increase its beauty while there are those that just mount the stone as they already command great value.
